Why Is Health Literacy Important During the Pandemic?

With the huge amount of information on the web about the coronavirus, it can be difficult to parse through what’s true and what’s not. So, the ability to identify real health information from fake ones is highly important – especially because misinformation can lead to devastating consequences.

Not only can believing in fake news lead to needing urgent care in Cleveland, Ohio, but it can also lead to death.

This is where health literacy comes in.

Health literacy is the ability to understand and process basic health information. This allows individuals to develop the skills to make informed decisions about their health. It also encourages people to take control of their care. After all, you can’t just rely on providers of primary care in Ohio for healthcare decisions. It needs to be collaborative.

So, why exactly is health literacy important during this pandemic?

Well, when people become health literate, they are more likely to become aware of the consequences of their actions. And they are more likely to take part in preventing the spread of the virus. Or, at the very least, they are more likely to follow COVID-19 safety protocols such as wearing masks and social distancing.

This Health Literacy Month, we must start paying attention to the power of health information. And we, at Cleveland Urgent Care, can be your health literacy partners. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any health concerns.

We provide general care services, express care, laboratory services, and more.
